Seminar “District Cooling: Accelerating Vietnam’s Transition Towards Sustainable Growth”

  03/08/2022

Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh made a statement at the international commitments COP26 about climate change truly becoming the biggest challenge to mankind, he said achieving net-zero emissions by 2050 is the inevitable goal of Vietnam in the near future. Thus, Vietnam will need a lot of determination to realize this commitment because it has to deal with many challenges, including fundamental changes in the economic structure, in addition to implementing the goals of changing from traditional fossil energy sources to green and clean energy, besides of reducing greenhouse gas emissions, and combating climate change.

As a steppingstone to this target, Vietnam has announced ambitious renewable energy targets and will double clean energy capacity by 31-38 GW leading to a 15-20% share of the country’s total energy supply mainly replacing coal, which will be phased out in the 2040’s.

District Cooling is an energy-efficient, environmentally friendly, and financially viable solution to meet the growing cooling demand and reach climate targets in Vietnam.

HVACR Vietnam 2022 continuously cooperates with the Asia Pacific Urban Energy Association (APUEA) again, to bring up the seminar under theme “District Cooling: Accelerating Vietnam’s Transition Towards Sustainable Growth” taking place on 08 September 2022 from 09:30 to 12:30 at the seminar room of HVACR Vietnam 2022. Receiving a lot of interest from the webinar that took place earlier in July, we decided to bring this necessary and useful topic to the physical visitors at this time exhibition.

The seminar will continue to discuss the general situation of Vietnam in the energy transition, the realistic demand of using green energy, from which we will continue to exploit the district cooling system and its benefits in reduction of adverse climate effects in the production process. In addition, we will also explore the application of district cooling system as a service, and the potential of applying this system in Vietnam.

Through the industry experts sharing who have pioneered the application and achieved certain success in the process of using district cooling systems, participants will gain a lot of useful knowledge and lessons learned from our experts and different urban energy schemes including industrial energy symbiosis and policy needs. The session will also explore the design, operation, and how to invest in District Cooling projects in Vietnam, ASEAN and Globally.
